“Trainer, could you come over here for a second?”
Once they entered the classroom building, King Halo told Cafe and Tachyon to take Silence to the Student Council first, then pulled Rei Sumikawa into a deserted corner.
“What is it, King?”
“Did you see how Silence was just now?”
“…”
“There’s definitely something wrong with that girl. That feeling she gave off… She’s extremely dangerous. Are you sure you want to sign a contract with her? I’m telling you, Trainer, think it over.”
The aura Silence had given off made King Halo feel as though she had come face-to-face with a savage beast. It hadn’t felt human. More like… some kind of monster wearing human skin!
She had nearly scooped Rei up and fled on the spot. King Halo had competed in countless races, big and small, but this was the first time anyone had ever frightened her so badly!
That girl was trouble. Definitely trouble!
“You’re overreacting, King. How could that possibly be true?”
“You don’t understand at all! Do you seriously think every Umamusume is a good person just because she’s an Umamusume?”
“I trust Cafe, and I trust Silence.”
“You’ll trust anyone as long as she’s an Umamusume!”
“That’s right. Every Umamusume is a good girl. They would never lie to me!”
King Halo covered her face. She truly had no idea how this man’s mind worked. What did he mean by saying Umamusume would never lie to him? Umamusume weren’t a single person, but an entire group! There were all kinds among them, good and bad alike. They weren’t saints. How could every last one of them be good?
His logic was no different from saying, “Anyone who likes XX can’t possibly be a bad person.” It was the kind of thinking that refused to learn until disaster was staring it in the face. And there was no need to look far. Just take the Student Council.
Tokai Teio now worked alongside the two vice presidents, Mejiro McQueen and Tsurumaru Tsuyoshi. Every time King Halo came to the Student Council with Rei, the way McQueen looked at him practically dripped with longing! She personally poured his tea every single time, deliberately sat beside him, and would “accidentally” brush her hand against his thigh.
Had King Halo not always forced herself between them, there was no telling how many liberties McQueen would have taken with her Trainer!
Just look at that. Could someone like her really be called a good person?
Of course, if that were all, it wouldn’t be so bad. At least Rei wouldn’t be in any danger. At worst, someone would take a few liberties with him.
Silence was different.
King Halo found Silence extraordinarily dangerous—the sort of person who, if she wanted someone, might break their arms and legs and keep them locked in her room. King hated to assume the worst of her, but that was exactly the feeling Silence had given her just now!
“It’s about time you developed some caution. Not every Umamusume is a good person!”
“No. I believe all Umamusume are innocent and kind!”
“Umamusume are not all innocent and kind! Do I look innocent and kind to you?”
“Of course. Aren’t you the very model of a refined young lady, King?”
“I-I’m…”
King Halo’s cheeks turned bright red as she looked away. She wanted to tell him that she was only holding herself back, and that her mind had long since become filthy beyond belief. The only reason she hadn’t made a move was because she was afraid of hurting Rei.
Kind, maybe—but innocent?
Every time King Halo spent too long with Rei, she had to run to the restroom to relieve the pressure. That word had nothing to do with her.
Realizing she couldn’t persuade him, King Halo sighed.
“Fine. But from now on, I’ll be responsible for Silence. You stay away from her.”
“No.”
“Y-you! Why won’t you ever listen?!”
“As a Trainer, I have a duty to guide Umamusume personally. And since Silence is connected to Cafe, I have even more reason to train her properly. So leave Silence to me, King.”
“You, you, you—honestly! Then I’m staying right beside you!”
No matter what, King Halo wasn’t going to let Silence be alone with Rei. That girl was far too dangerous.
“Of course. You’ll always be by my side, King.”
THUMP!
King Halo’s heart gave a violent leap.
Calm down. Calm down! I only have to hold out until tonight. Then I can drop the act! Rei is already perfectly ripe!
“King? Are you okay?”
Seeing her braced against the wall and panting heavily, Rei couldn’t help asking.
“Ah, mm, I’m fine. Barely… Anyway, let’s go. Cafe and the others are probably getting tired of waiting.”
When they reached the Student Council room, Rei pushed open the door. A young Umamusume with a ponytail sat on the sofa, chatting with everyone. The snow-white streak on her forehead swayed gently with every movement, and her clear blue eyes were bright and adorable.
At the sound of the door opening, she turned around. The instant her gaze landed on Rei, her eyes lit up.
“Trainer! You’re here!”
“Teio! My adorable Teio!”
Rei eagerly sat down beside her and wrapped an arm around her waist. Tokai Teio giggled, then buried her face in his chest and nuzzled against him.
Although becoming president had drastically reduced the time Teio could spend with Rei, their relationship hadn’t suffered. If anything, they treasured their time together all the more.
Watching them being so affectionate, King Halo couldn’t help but feel envious. She and Rei were practically an old married couple by now, yet whenever she saw Teio with him, she still felt like an outsider.
It was a good thing Teio had become president. Otherwise, King Halo wasn’t sure she could have beaten her. Those two were always at zero distance—and liable to go negative at any moment.
“President Teio, we’re here to register Silence. Cafe and the others should have explained everything already, right?”
King Halo sat down beside Rei.
“Trainer… mm… Trainer~”
Tokai Teio wagged her tail, burrowing her head into Rei’s chest and breathing in deeply.
“President Teio, we’re here on official business.”
A vein throbbed at King Halo’s temple. She silently seized Teio’s tail and yanked her back.
“Ow! King, what was that for? You interrupted my time with Trainer!”
“You’re the Student Council president now. Please mind your image, President Teio.”
“President, president, president… Who even wants this stupid job?! I’m stuck in this room all day and can’t go anywhere. It’s so annoying.”
Tokai Teio grumbled, then pointed at the form on the desk.
“Sign the form. And you’re Silence, right? Welcome to Team Ascella. There’s only one thing you need to know when you join: Trainer belongs to me. None of you are allowed to steal him.”
Silence blinked as she signed the form, looking utterly confused. Tachyon and Cafe, standing on either side of her, were clearly used to this by now.
As for King Halo, she wore a smile, but her eyebrow wouldn’t stop twitching.
Tonight, I’m going to [BLEEP] Trainer!
