Chapter 65

Ophis Wants Silence [65]

If one were to follow the original timeline, after the King of Heroes Gilgamesh set out in search of the elixir of immortality, the city of Babylon would be left without a ruler. By the time of his return, his kingdom would lie in ruins and his people long scattered.

Thus, Gilgamesh abandoned the old Babylon entirely, rebuilding a new city-state to the southeast and starting his rule anew from nothing. For him, with his leadership and will, this was no difficult feat.

Within this Singularity, following that history, Gilgamesh would later dismantle Babylon completely, using its materials to construct the Northern Wall.

However, after the king’s identity was changed to Ophis, the need to pursue immortality vanished. With no long absences in this version of history, fate adjusted itself—so the previous monarch before Ophis had already relocated the capital for unrelated reasons.

In other words, Ophis’s Uruk now stood where Gilgamesh’s new Uruk would have been, while old Babylon still lay to the northwest as before.

There was one small difference: after years of abandonment, the old capital had been taken over by others. During Ophis’s earlier conquests, she had relocated the remaining population before dismantling Babylon to build the Northern Wall.

In any case, Babylon was doomed to the same fate.

Yet now, in that desolate city stripped of its former glory—where no visitors should have come—a few unexpected guests abruptly descended.

And “descended” wasn’t poetic exaggeration—they literally dropped from the sky.

A flash of bright silver light erupted before crashing heavily into the ground.

Cough, cough…

Amid the clouds of dust raised by the impact, three small silhouettes gradually came into view.

“Senpai… Master, are you okay?”

A soft, gentle voice came from one of the three.

“Ah, I’m alright—thanks entirely to you, Mash.”

“Indeed, as expected of Miss Mash.”

Two other voices quickly followed.

As the dust cleared, their figures became visible.

A blonde girl with emerald eyes, clad in a white dress beneath shining armor, stood beside a girl with short peach-colored hair that covered one eye, wearing black sleeveless armor and wielding a massive shield.

Both were strikingly beautiful. Between them stood another girl, less ethereal but brimming with life—her red hair tied in a side ponytail, dressed in white travel clothes.

At their feet, a small white creature resembling a squirrel circled them excitedly.

“Phew! Thank goodness, I was worried for a moment—everyone alright?”

A distinctly male voice echoed from the red-haired girl’s wristband. A holographic screen flickered to life, showing a man in a doctor’s coat with a worried expression.

“Yes… Though we fell from about two hundred meters in the air, thanks to Master’s quick thinking, we survived. But Doctor, could you explain what happened? We’ve had plenty of accidents before, but suddenly appearing in midair is a first. What went wrong?”

Mash’s brows knit slightly as she questioned the man on screen.

“Well… it seems the Rayshift process was disrupted. Your target coordinates were set for this era’s largest city—that part succeeded—but immediately after materialization, you were forcibly expelled from that location.”

“Could this be interference from the Mage King?” the blonde girl interjected.

“Hm… Isn’t this place also a city? It looks pretty big to me,” the red-haired Master said thoughtfully, tapping her cheek.

“Huh? That’s a city too? Indeed, there are plenty of life signatures here…”

“It’s a barrier~!”

A woman who looked remarkably like the Mona Lisa suddenly appeared on the screen beside the doctor.

“The results are in, Romani. You were expelled because of Uruk’s barrier.”

“In other words,” Romani said gravely, “Uruk must be facing something serious to need a barrier like that.”

“This isn’t good… or rather, this is exactly what we’d expect from the Age of Gods. The mana density is through the roof—we can barely keep the connection stable. You’ll have to gather information on site; we can only provide analysis support from here. Now, can you confirm the light bands in the sky?”

“Yes, Doctor, the bands are clearly visible. As for our surroundings, it seems we’re in ruins,” Mash reported after scanning the area.

“I see… Then don’t expect resupply from your current position. Uruk itself is quite far away…”

Suddenly, the blonde girl stepped forward and summoned a beautifully ornate golden sword into her hands.

“Master, please stand back.”

“What?”

Though uncertain, everyone trusted her instinct without hesitation. Mash quickly raised her cross-shaped shield to protect their Master.

“Enemies incoming—hostile signatures detected!”

Doctor Romani’s urgent warning came a heartbeat too late.

“Be careful! Given the era’s instability, we could only Rayshift three of you at once. Reinforcements are impossible right now. Your combat power is limited—you’ll need to find allies native to this period as soon as possible!”

“Don’t worry. We’ve always started out like this, haven’t we?”

The red-haired Master smiled brightly, her voice full of confidence.

“Lily, Mash—you’re my greatest sword and shield!”

That conviction wasn’t only for her own sake, but for the trust they’d built together.

“Master…”

The other two were visibly moved.

“Master, enemies approaching! Please give your orders!”

From beyond the ruins, dozens of demonic beasts—part lion, part hyena, their manes blazing like fire—charged at incredible speed, roaring fiercely.

“Alright! Just like always—let’s take them down! Lily, attack! Mash, cover her!”

“Yes!”

“Mash Kyrielight, moving out!”

Their voices rang out together at their Master’s command.

These beasts were stronger than most foes they’d faced before—but the trio believed that, with their Master’s guidance, victory was certain.

As Lily’s golden sword flared with light and she prepared to strike—

“Wait, that reaction!”

Doctor Romani’s alarm came just as countless thin golden beams rained down from the sky. Their energy was overwhelming—far beyond what their small size suggested. In an instant, the entire horde was annihilated.

“What the—!”

The three turned toward the direction the beams had come from.

“Hm… so you’re the ones, huh? The ‘foreigners’ everyone’s been gossiping about nonstop?”

A black-haired goddess with twin tails smiled playfully at them, casually tossing and catching several gemstones now dim from recent use.
