Moving item’s totaling nearly several hundred, even nearly a thousand pounds might not be much for an adult, but for Wang Hao, a fourteen-year-old boy, it was more than a little challenging.
By the end, his vision blurred, and the faint golden light in his eyes dimmed with exhaustion. Sweat streamed down his forehead, soaking his hair and clouding his vision.
Even the danmaku in his eyes gradually shifted from idle chatter and mockery to words of encouragement:
[You’re almost done! Keep going, Wang Hao!]
[This must be a test. Hang in there!]
[I saw Ningguang glance your way! Wang Hao, you’re about to hit the jackpot!]

Buoyed by their support, Wang Hao used every bit of his strength to move the last of the supplies into the warehouse.
Then, gathering his remaining energy, he returned to the courtyard and approached Ningguang. “Big Sister, I’ve finished moving everything.”
As Ningguang looked at the young boy standing before her, an unexpected feeling of warmth welled up inside her heart.
He really does resemble me…
The image of Wang Hao clenching his teeth as he struggled to move supplies vividly reminded her of the days when she herself had walked barefoot through Liyue, pulling carts of goods and hawking wares.
In Ningguang’s eyes, a boy with such determination was bound to achieve great things.
Yet even though she inwardly admired him greatly, Ningguang maintained her usual calm demeanor, nodding slightly. “Good. Since you completed the task well, we can put our earlier misunderstandings behind us.”
“Thank you, Big Sister.” Wang Hao managed a small bow despite his fatigue.
Ningguang acknowledged him, then continued, “Your name is Wang Hao, and you attend Tongwen Academy, correct?”
Hearing this, Wang Hao’s mind filled with speculation, echoed by a surge of danmaku:
“Yes, Big Sister. My name’s Wang Hao, and I’m enrolled at Tongwen Academy’s Junior Division.”
The Junior Division essentially meant elementary-level schooling. Only after graduating from there and continuing studies at Tongwen Academy could one truly be considered a scholar.
After this year’s examinations, Wang Hao would officially leave the Junior Division and become a proper scholar.
Ningguang nodded thoughtfully—of course, she’d already learned this from Granny, but some things were more meaningful when heard from the individual directly.
“If you’re already studying to become a scholar, why did you choose to become a swindler at the docks?” Ningguang asked pointedly.
Wang Hao’s face flushed slightly. “Big Sister, didn’t we agree to put that behind us?”
“Relax, I simply want to understand your reasoning. I won’t pursue it any further,” Ningguang reassured him gently, giving him a comforting glance.
[Tell her, it’s clearly a test!!!]
[Ningguang isn’t a bad person, but choose your words carefully!!!!!]
[Set your persona carefully!!!! Do you know what I mean?]
Seeing the comments, Wang Hao thought carefully for a moment, then replied earnestly, “I sold at the docks because I needed Mora.”
“You needed Mora? As far as I know, all your basic expenses are reimbursed by the Adventurers’ Guild.”
Wang Hao’s parents had left a sizable sum at the Guild, covering his everyday necessities. He wasn’t surprised Ningguang knew about this—rather, it would’ve been odd if she hadn’t.
“You came from humble origins yourself. You should understand that it’s not easy for a child to get expenses reimbursed. Besides, Granny struggles to care for so many kids, and the Ministry of Civil Affairs always gives too little, too late.”
“The big merchant guilds on Feiyun Slope are mostly tightfisted too.”
“Food, medicine, clothing, and education—all of it needs Mora. There’s never enough. I can’t steal, and I can’t rob anyone. Running a legitimate business is too difficult, so my only option was to sell ordinary lilies as ‘Glaze Lilies.’”
“Besides, even though my price was high, it wasn’t as high as real Glaze Lilies. Those people saw I was just a kid and tried to buy ‘Glaze Lilies’ at ordinary flower prices—they deserved to get tricked.”
As Wang Hao spoke, Granny stood nearby, eyes reddening. She knew his viewpoint wasn’t entirely proper, but hearing it from a child’s mouth filled her with guilt. She blamed herself for forcing him into this situation.
Ningguang remained calm. To her, Wang Hao’s story was familiar—selling ordinary lilies disguised as Glaze Lilies, earning money to support the orphanage—these actions were commendable but not particularly moving.
She herself had done the same things, and even better—after all, she had never once been caught when she was selling as a child.
“I see.” Ningguang studied Wang Hao for a moment before continuing. “Wang Hao, you’re very intelligent. Few at your age can compare to you.”
“In intellect, talent, and determination, you are exceptional. I even see some of my former self in you.”
Wang Hao listened quietly, as if Ningguang were speaking of someone else.
Then, a rare smile appeared on Ningguang’s normally composed face, her wine-red eyes fixed on him. “Tell me, Wang Hao—would you consider working for me?”
[Wow! A rich and powerful backer! Accept quickly, Wang Hao!]
[Tianquan Ningguang herself! Say yes, and you’ll soar straight to the top!]
[Rich, powerful, gorgeous—what’s there to hesitate about?!]
Another flurry of comments flooded Wang Hao’s vision.
Despite the danmaku’s excitement, Wang Hao remained calm. He knew these comments always urged him toward whoever appeared important.
They’d done it with Xingqiu, Keqing, and now Ningguang as well.
He trusted the danmaku’s factual information, but their advice? He preferred to thread with caution.
He hadn’t forgotten their suggestion to forcefully kiss Keqing earlier.
Raising his youthful face, Wang Hao met Ningguang’s gaze directly. “What would it cost me? And what do I stand to gain?”
Approval flickered in Ningguang’s eyes. “Cost? That’s not quite the right word. I’d need you to do certain things for me that I cannot easily do myself—such as spreading particular rumors among your classmates or gathering information from market gossip.”
“As for what you gain—you want Mora, right? I’ll pay you generously, and I’ll also fund the orphanage so the children can study properly. How does that sound?”
Ningguang’s beautiful eyes watched Wang Hao calmly, as if she had already secured his agreement.
In truth, she indeed had him completely convinced.
Given her offer, Wang Hao had no reason to refuse.
He nodded, then imitated the gestures of the great merchants of Liyue, cupping his fists respectfully. “Then, I humbly request your guidance, milady.”
