Chapter 7

Genshin Impact: Danmaku—Live Comments in My Eyes [7]

Hearing the white-haired woman’s question, Wang Hao’s face flushed red. He’d have to be an idiot not to realize he’d misunderstood her.

“I-I’m sorry, I misunderstood you.”

Wang Hao was a good kid—or at least, he was one in front of Granny. Despite feeling incredibly embarrassed and wishing he could sink into the ground, he still managed to force out an apology to Ningguang.

“Hmph. If apologies were enough, we wouldn’t need the Millelith.”

Ningguang didn’t accept his apology; instead, she turned cold, looking down at Wang Hao indifferently.

Wang Hao’s heart skipped a beat. Did I mess up that badly? She’s involving the Millelith now?

Granny glanced at Ningguang and, with her wealth of experience, quickly noticed a faint glint of amusement in the woman’s eyes. Realizing the noblewoman was teasing Wang Hao, Granny quietly stepped back, leaving the boy exposed.

[Whoa, Ningguang’s harsh!]
[Right? Wang Hao already apologized!]
[Lol, you think apologies automatically earn forgiveness?]
[Then what, complain to management?]

The danmaku in Wang Hao’s vision started bickering too, but nothing useful came up.

He raised his face, eyes serious. “Then what should I do to earn your forgiveness, Big Sister?”

Actually, Wang Hao had already figured it out. Though he didn’t know Ningguang personally, she was someone competing for Tianquan. Even if he had offended her, she wouldn’t publicly hold a grudge against a child—that would only hurt her reputation.

The phrase “he’s just a child” was obnoxious, but for someone like Ningguang, getting hung up on it would damage her dignity, especially while competing for a Qixing seat. Her earlier words were probably just to scare him.

Ningguang studied the small boy and noticed something interesting: his eyes weren’t black, but had a faint golden hue. She suddenly felt curious about his identity.

After a pause, she spoke calmly. “Counting carefully, this is your second offense. Previously at the docks, you tried to sell me ordinary lilies disguised as Glaze Lilies. When I exposed you, you panicked, ran, and fell into the harbor. If I hadn’t sent someone to rescue you, I’d likely be accused of harming children by now.”

Wang Hao blushed. He had fainted quickly after falling into the water and woke up in Bubu Pharmacy, never realizing it was Ningguang who’d saved him.

“And just now, you rushed over recklessly, accusing me falsely and implying I was bullying someone, damaging my reputation again.”

Ningguang fixed her wine-red eyes on Wang Hao’s face, focusing on the trace of gold in his eyes. “I haven’t said anything incorrect, have I?”

Wang Hao lowered his head in shame, speechless.

Sometimes, what defeated a person wasn’t lies—it was the truth. Ningguang’s words were all facts.

He’d attempted fraud—true. He fled and fell into the harbor—true. Ningguang sent someone to rescue him—also probably true. He had just rashly accused her—completely true as well.

Filled with guilt, Wang Hao bowed deeply, hands folded respectfully. “It’s all my fault. Name your punishment, and I’ll accept it…”

Seeing Wang Hao bow so sincerely, Ningguang’s eyes softened with approval. This boy had flaws, but he was sincere at least.

“If I make an issue of this, I’ll be laughed at. But if I don’t punish you at all, my heart won’t feel at ease.”

Ningguang pointed to the large pile of supplies near the courtyard wall. “Here are many daily necessities. Your punishment is to move them into the storeroom alone. How does that sound?”

Wang Hao glanced at the supplies, stacked like a small mountain. It had to be at least several hundred pounds. He had no idea how he hadn’t noticed them earlier.

He nodded vigorously. “I understand. Thank you, Big Sister.”

Having a child move hundreds of pounds of supplies alone was harsh, but for someone he’d offended twice, it was neither physically severe nor financially punishing—just some tiring manual labor. It was a lenient sentence.

“Good. Then get to work.” Ningguang nodded slightly, ignoring Wang Hao afterward and continuing her conversation with Granny.

Without complaints, Wang Hao went to the supplies, picked up a large sack, and headed toward the storeroom.

As Wang Hao worked, Ningguang and Granny discussed him quietly.

“Thank you, milady, for your leniency,” Granny said gratefully. From experience, she could tell Ningguang was punishing Wang Hao to temper him, not to harm him.

Ningguang shook her head lightly. “I was just as troublesome in my childhood. When I look at him, I see glimpses of my past self. And honestly, he hasn’t committed any great wrong. A mild punishment is enough.”

“Ah, so the young master has caught your eye? That must be his good fortune.”

“Indeed. Granny, could you tell me more about him?” Remembering the golden glint in Wang Hao’s eyes, Ningguang couldn’t suppress her curiosity.

Granny didn’t suspect anything unusual, believing Ningguang simply felt some fondness for Wang Hao. She smiled and explained, “Actually, little Wang Hao isn’t exactly an orphan. His parents were adventurers who were reported missing but never confirmed deceased.”

“He was around six when he first came here—quite clever even then. He quickly became the leader of the kids, even earning respect from older children.”

In truth, Granny had found Wang Hao wandering alone and brought him back.

“About two years ago, the Adventurers’ Guild informed us his parents’ will had instructions, arranging for him to attend Tongwen Academy. That’s when he moved out, though he visits frequently.”

“You mentioned he tried tricking you at the docks—truthfully, it was all to keep the orphanage’s kids fed and clothed.”

Seeing Ningguang’s interest, Granny eagerly shared stories about Wang Hao—mostly positive anecdotes sprinkled with amusing mishaps, making Ningguang smile faintly.

Wang Hao carried sack after sack into the storeroom, soon panting heavily. Large beads of sweat dripped from his forehead, splashing onto the ground, soaking his thin clothing and leaving burning red marks on his arms.

But despite the pain and exhaustion, he didn’t stop, steadily moving one sack at a time.

Perhaps hearing the commotion outside, several small children peeked out from their rooms. Seeing the struggling figure, they immediately recognized him.

“Ah, it’s Brother Hao! Brother Hao!” they called joyfully. To them, Wang Hao’s visits always meant treats or toys.

Pausing briefly, Wang Hao smiled at the kids despite his pale, exhausted face. “Someone generous donated supplies for you all. They’re chatting with Granny now, so stay quiet—don’t bother our guest.”

At his reminder, the children quickly quieted down, though their eyes still shone happily.

Soon, several older kids emerged from their rooms.

“Brother Hao, let us help you.”

Wang Hao shook his head firmly. He wasn’t yet sure of Ningguang’s temperament, and this punishment was meant specifically for him. If the others helped and angered her again, it’d cause more trouble.

“No need. You guys look after the younger ones. I’ll handle this.”

Dismissing their offers of help, Wang Hao continued moving supplies alone.

Hidden from everyone’s sight, a faint golden glow flickered in his pupils as strength gradually filled his tired body.
