Gate of Babylon had brought Gilgamesh so many surprises that even his anger was beginning to fade.
In truth, the moment Kurumi Tokisaki stepped into the temple’s main hall, Gilgamesh had already sensed the mana within the two of them—far beyond that of ordinary demigods, and not much less than what his own had once been.
But precisely because he had sensed their mana so directly, Gilgamesh had failed to notice at first that they had concealed it. From his perspective, that mana had not been concealed at all.
It was only after they had exchanged a few lines that he remembered Siduri telling him those two had no mana.
And at that moment, he realized what ability Gate of Babylon had given him.
He could clearly sense that within Gate of Babylon, certain detection-type Noble Phantasms were operating in a limited state, and that effect had even extended to him personally.
That was why he had seen straight through Kurumi Tokisaki and Shirou Emiya’s concealment spells and directly perceived their mana.
And to his surprise, quite a few Noble Phantasms within Gate of Babylon were operating in this kind of limited state. The mana sustaining them was being supplied by the Holy Grail he had placed inside Gate of Babylon, along with the Great Grail of Uruk, which had already been there.
That was no great matter. What truly delighted Gilgamesh was that the Noble Phantasms inside Gate of Babylon could actually function on their own!
That was something the original Gate of Babylon could never possibly do!
And so Gilgamesh understood.
Rather than being something that merely let him store items inside it, his Gate of Babylon had instead specialized entirely in item usage. The Ea he had previously placed inside it worked on the same principle. In some way, Gate of Babylon linked him and the items together, reducing the difficulty of using them to an absolute minimum.
From the feedback Gate of Babylon automatically sent to his senses, Gilgamesh learned that there were currently 648 Noble Phantasms within it, operating autonomously to varying degrees while consuming only small amounts of mana.
Among them were ones for detection, ones for healing, ones that could bestow all kinds of blessings, and even ones that could enhance certain kinds of intelligence!
With a single thought, he could decide whether to activate or deactivate them, and how far to release them. Ordinarily, they all ran at the lowest possible output.
Even if, once those effects manifested on Gilgamesh, they seemed more like passive abilities than anything else, he could still sense the tremendous advantages they offered.
“Your Majesty, we truly had our reasons for hiding ourselves! Please, King Gilgamesh, judge with the clarity of a wise king!”
Kurumi’s voice reached his ears, drawing his gaze to her strained smile.
He paid no attention to her words. Instead, he enthusiastically began trying out the various passive effects.
Suddenly, Kurumi felt a chill.
An invisible pressure rolled off Gilgamesh.
Under that nearly tangible force of presence, she felt like a tiny boat in a storm-tossed sea, battered by towering waves and nearly overturned!
Seeing her practically bristle where she stood, interest appeared in Gilgamesh’s eyes.
The next moment, the feedback from Gate of Babylon told him what kind of Noble Phantasm effect it was.
What a strange collection. So there really are Noble Phantasms that manifest as auras.
Watching from the side, Shirou Emiya was starting to wonder whether the Gilgamesh he had fought before had really been Gilgamesh at all.
The difference was way too big!
He had never seen Gilgamesh do anything like this either!
“My king.”
Siduri stepped to Gilgamesh’s side and calmly said something that made Kurumi Tokisaki frown even more deeply.
“How about accepting the treasure they brought, throwing them in the dungeon, and punishing them another day?”
“After all, it should be time for my king’s meal. We cannot keep wasting time on them.”
“Hm? Fine. Do as you will.”
Gilgamesh did not care. He was still busy looking for Noble Phantasms to play with.
“No. Our meeting is not a waste of time.”
While Kurumi Tokisaki was still trying to think of what to do, Shirou Emiya suddenly spoke up, fixing Gilgamesh and Siduri with a determined gaze.
“Hm?”
Hearing his voice, Gilgamesh looked toward Shirou Emiya in mild surprise.
“Sasuke?”
“Huh?”
The air Shirou Emiya had worked so hard to build up instantly deflated.
“No, not Sasuke. You’re… Shirou Emiya?”
Gilgamesh looked at the boy who had finally spoken, his face lighting up with interest.
By this point, Kurumi Tokisaki did not even feel like saying anything anymore.
The credibility of their information had already been shattered beyond recognition.
“You… know me?”
Shirou Emiya’s lips twitched.
“Of course I know you. A Hero of Justice, yes?”
Gilgamesh smiled, which only made Kurumi marvel once again at how capricious this madman was.
“Don’t be so tense. I’ve no idea why two people who should have had nothing to do with each other ended up here together, but I am pleased to see you.”
“You… call this… happy?”
With a stunned expression, Shirou Emiya pointed at the shattered ground.
“Ah. Thank you for the reminder.”
Gilgamesh’s expression changed yet again, and Shirou Emiya could feel the killing intent returning.
“You thought you could deceive me?!”
Golden ripples surfaced once more. This time, it was nothing like the small warning shot from before. Just the openings of Gate of Babylon within their sight numbered more than thirty!
“We truly had our reasons for hiding ourselves! Please, King Gilgamesh, judge with the clarity of a wise king!”
Kurumi Tokisaki hurriedly repeated herself.
“I am not unreasonable.”
Divine weapons of Noble Phantasm rank slowly emerged from those golden ripples. The mana radiating from them made it clear that these were no low-grade treasures.
“But do not repeat that line. Say something worth hearing. Otherwise…”
Two Noble Phantasms shot out, grazing past Kurumi Tokisaki and Shirou Emiya’s faces before flying out beyond the temple.
Once again, Shirou Emiya was certain that this was not the same Gilgamesh he had faced before.
Not just because that gaudy bastard would never have given them a chance to explain, but because those two swords were not currently lodged in their bodies.
“Gulp.”
He swallowed, then looked toward Kurumi Tokisaki. She nodded at him.
Come clean. They could not keep hiding it.
That was what she meant, and Shirou Emiya understood.
“We…”
Shirou Emiya swallowed again.
“We’re here to save the world!”
